Background
Big data becomes the buzz. It’s in the press and all over the web. CMOs recently reported that the percent of their companies’ marketing budgets devoted to big data will increase from 6% to 10% over the next three years on top of a sizable strategic expenditure. It is expected that companies with sales revenue of $10B or more will spend 13.7% of marketing budgets on marketing analytics in three years while companies with sales revenue of $25M or less will spend 9.2%.
Although technology companies like Teradata and SAS are making data easier to use, business will need well-educated analysts for years to come. It is widely recognized across the planet that analysts will be in demand for many years. According to Gartner Research, an analyst shortage has persisted for some time. A much-quoted 2011 report by McKinsey & Company’s Business Technology Office, for example, found that the need for data-analytics talent would exceed supply by 50 to 60 percent by 2018. The United States alone faces a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 people with deep analytical skills as well as 1.5 million managers and analysts to analyze big data and make decisions based on their findings.
As a result, job market has a much higher demand of business data analysts, provides more job opportunities and chances to be promoted. An entry level position could earn more than $50,000 salary. A year or later, junior analysts could be easily promoted to a senior position, earning $60,000 to $80,000. Besides, Dr. Dobb’s 2012 Salary Survey also found a rise in salaries over the past few years for business analysts, programmers/analysts, and systems analysts—meaning that the coming decade could prove very good financially for people like you.
